Author's note:
I still plan to add color as per my previous post, but this version looks so cool and also functions as a coloring book. It is also easier to print while using less ink. I'm looking forward to learning about how to create my color layers properly for Risoprinting in case I can make that happen!

Alt Text:

(All pages feature quirky black ink drawings of my cats.)
  1. Front Cover: Art Journaling Inspiration for Spoonies (who love cats)

  2. Each new page of your journal is an opportunity to practice courageous curiosity!

  3. Treat yourself as you would treat a young child who is just learning to draw or write.

  4. if you miss days of art due to low energy or pain, please be kind to yourself

  5. It’s okay, don’t be afraid to have “bad” drawings or messy pages. Embrace the awkward parts of your art.

  6. What if the Process is Art too? Your journal as evidence of the Art Process.

  7. A sketchbook is inherently a series. Explore possible variations and refine as you go.

  8. It is totally valid to use your art-making as a way to ‘stim’ (like a fidget toy)

  9. Try for bite-sized mini goals when your attention is scarce.

  10. Use one whole art session to make a list of prompts.

  11. Observational doodles are a fun way to ground with art. Draw a cartoon of what you see.

  12. Be observant. ‘Notice what you Notice.’

  13. State the obvious in your journal. What is obvious now may not be obvious later.

  14. "Everything is interesting when you draw it" - Koosje Koene

  15. “Happy Accidents” - Bob Ross

  16. Back cover:

Are you ready to be brave with your writing and visual art journaling?

Let the blank pages of your notebook be a safe place to use grace with yourself. Work through your intrusive thoughts with help from the Zen Buddhist concept of “Beginner’s Mind.” Be as gentle with yourself as you can.

Making art daily is awesome because it gets easier with practice. But please be patient if you miss days and you find an unwelcome friction upon return to your art.

There is always a cycle of ease, struggle, and plateaus. Your flow will return in time.
